Scientific dissemination democratizes knowledge, promoting Open Science and citizen education based on critical thinking. It facilitates access to research, encourages dialogue between experts and citizens, and strengthens informed decision-making, contributing to sustainable development and social welfare. Tasks in which GEAMA has always been very active. Below are several examples from recent months, in which GEAMA members joined several dissemination initiatives.

To commemorate 11th of February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the CITEEC organised a special edition of INTERLABS dedicated to this date, in which three members of GEAMA participated with the following presentations:

  • Sustainable drainage techniques at UDC. Olalla Alonso López.
  • Study on the crack initiation and propagation mechanisms in rock mode and fracture. Yan Li.
  • Hydrological-hydraulic models in post-fire erosion management. Marina de Miguel Gallo.

Furthermore, Manuel Regueiro Picallo participated in the first episode of the third season of the UDC podcast Onda Ciencia, broadcast on CUAC FM. The episode ‘Climate Change in A Coruña: Local Impact and Adaptation Strategies’ also featured Armand Hernández Hernández and Pedro José Vega Marcote, who discussed climate change from different fields of research and teaching and from a local geographical perspective.

Finally, several members of GEAMA participated in the XXV Science Day in the Streets of A Coruña, organised by the Association of Scientific Museums of A Coruña, the Association of Friends of the House of Science and Cátedra EMALCSA-UDC. Among other aspects of water and environmental engineering, the operation of a wave channel and a hydraulic pump was explained at the stands of the School of Civil Engineering and CITEEC.
