Vertical slot fishway efficiency evaluation by means of computer vision techniques

Duration

Description

The abundance of obstacles for the migration is directly related to the population drop of the migratory species in rivers. The design of effective fish passes is one of the keys to achieve healthy aquatic environments. Nevertheless, the knowledge of fish behavior in these devices is limited, particularly for coarse species such as cyprinids.

This project intends to develop a computer vision system to track the trajectory of fish when they swim upstream these devices. This system will be used in laboratory tests with different species of living fish in a full scale fishway model, in order to evaluate the biological efficiency of different fishway designs and fish behavior under these hydrodynamic conditions.
